NEUROLOGICAL REHABILITATION 4E

By Darcy Umphred

Published: October 2000

Summary:

This is the classic reference for clinicians and students. It addresses therapeutic management of neurologically disabled people in a problem-solving approach. Section I describes the theory behind neurological rehabilitation. The types of screening and diagnostic tests used, general treatments and interventions, as well as the psychological aspect for the patient. Section II covers all the common diseases, genetic disorders and post-trauma effects that the physical therapist is likely to encounter through clinical practice. Each chapter gives a detailed overview of that particular disease or impairment and the suggested treatments. Each is heavily illustrated and contains at least one case study to further enhance understanding. Section III covers neurological problems associated with all disabilities such as poor vision, pelvic floor dysfunction and pain management.

Features:

Chapter 33 offers an exciting look at alternative and complementary therapies now being used or introduced to PT practice as well as covering some that are not at present in common usage but may be soon.
