Give Me Five!

Magnetic Positive Behaviour Reinforcement Chart

Give Me Five! is a magnetic Positive Behaviour Reinforcement Chart that enables parents to help children develop in areas such as sleeping, eating, toileting, general behaviour and school goals.

Give Me Five represents an approach that leaves behind that ‘negative downward spiral’ that parents get into from time to time. Instead of ongoing negative feedback for certain behaviour, kids and parents are working in a fun and positive way towards a more acceptable outcome.

In most cases, using Give Me Five!, in conjunction with lots of encouraging feedback from parents, will be enough to bring about the desired change in behaviour. The Give Me Five! chart can then be put away for a different issue or another child.

Give Me Five! is unique in that it has Visible Rewards representing fun, inexpensive family outings, eg: flying a kite or feeding the ducks, giving even very young children the incentive to work towards the goal they have chosen.

With only five steps to success, most children will be inspired by Give me Five!

Give Me Five! can be used by children from the age of 3 onwards, and includes a detailed step-by-step Parent Booklet to help make sure parents get it right first time! There’s also a Quick Start Method for those who just want to get on with it!

There is a real need for simple star charts for parents to use in the home, especially with the recent media emphasis on the importance of reinforcing positive behaviour, eg: Jo Frost (Super Nanny) on TV and in the September 2006 Australian Women's Weekly, emphasising the value of star charts.

Give Me Five! comes with 6 sets of Fingertip Magnets and 25 Reward Magnets to give children the opportunity to personalise their chart each time they use it!

Testimonials

The following comments were made by parents during our product testing.

Jacqui – 2 year old son – staying in own bed
I first covered two of the fingertips as my child has just turned two. I used it for keeping him in (his own) bed. He understood what he had to do and the picture of the bed was easy for him to see and understand. It worked first time!

Sally – 3 year old daughter – sleeping in own bed, not calling out, giving up dummy.
Give Me Five! helped my daughter to stay in her bed without calling out and without her dummy. She went to bed and was good! Successful result!

Allison – 3 year old son – eating breakfast
I liked not being the ‘bad guy’. We established the rules together which meant it wasn’t my fault if he did not get a star or couldn’t have the reward. All breakfasts eaten!

Jan – 4 year old son – look at parents and paying attention when being spoken to, packing away belongings.
Give Me Five’s simplicity is its appeal. The excitement and interest comes from the whole family’s involvement and support! Give Me Five! was great! It works and it reinforces what was expected. He was very impressed with his success.

Deanne – 5 year old son
The two best things about Give Me Five!: - Five is very achievable, and a lot of rewards are quality time events for kids and parents.

Kirsti – 6 year old daughter – putting dishes away, being ready for school in time.
Give Me Five really encourages children to remember certain tasks!

Tina – 8 year old daughter – unpacking school bag, setting table
We loved Give Me Five! I love the concept for all age groups. I wish I had it when I was toilet training all 3! Successful result.

Tricia – Teacher who works as an assistant in Special Education and ESL
Give me Five would be useful particularly for children with learning and behavioural difficulties. I believe First Time Success is imperative, so that the child knows what it feels like to succeed and hence can be referred back to in future.
